Did I tell you that my kiddo has two weeks of spring break? Two. Weeks. Well, at least we get to sleep in.
One week takes place in a beautiful tropical location, but the other week takes place at home. For the at-home week, we’ve got two playdates on the schedule, plus a much-needed haircut for both of us, and color for one. Also on my agenda are fun things like painting our toenails and watching some movies. And some necessary things, like cleaning Carla’s craft room. On Carla’s agenda: all the TV and video games.
We do also need to eat. What’s a good Spring Break menu plan? Taking a break from meal planning and cooking would be nice, but alas, that’s not in the cards. Even when we are traveling, our hostess has expressed interest in cooking. I would much rather not think about food beyond picking something off a menu at a restaurant, and I would love to wash nary a dish… but. We’ll see.
Okay, so: meal planning, playdates, and Easter. We aren’t big Easter celebrants here, and none of us particularly likes ham (except in Lunchable form). But it seems like we should do SOMETHING celebratory, no? Aside from copious amounts of Reese’s peanut butter eggs, of course.
Dinners for the Week of March 25-31
- Tacos: Tacos are a great, kid-friendly meal with the benefit of being easy.
- Hamburgers: Carla eats hamburgers and I’m hoping one of her playmates also eats hamburgers. If not, there are always chicken nuggets.
- Pork Loin with Wine and Herb Gravy: This seems fancy enough for a holiday meal. I bet it would pair well with some baby potatoes and asparagus.
- Pizza: I just want pizza. Carla won’t eat it, but my husband will.
- Something else????
There. That sounds sufficiently spring-break-y to me. What’s on your meal plan for the week?
It sounds like a nice mix of vacation and home time with necessary and fun activities balanced. I’m not the one to ask about meals since I would eat pizza every day if I could.
A two week spring break!!! Woo hoo!!! Also yes to all of the pizza dinners. We had a family get together last weekend with pizza and it was heavenly.
Are they 2 weeks in a row? If so, that sounds wonderful and I love how you have it broken up between travel and staycation (even if staycation = you still have to cook, haha!). We have a week in Feb and a week in April and neither feel like a legitimate break, haha. We are all off-kilter with meal planning this week; the Mr went food shopping with the idea “I’ll just buy stuff we make regularly” and I’m scared…
Enjoy your spring break and I hope you get a little bit of a spring break from COOKING AND DISHES! At least a few days of non-cooking would be nice. Enjoy!
Really, two weeks off? She’s a lucky duck! I actually DO have meals planned for this week- my son will be home, and I have a list of dinners to make. The only thing I don’t have planned is Easter Sunday. We also aren’t big Easter celebrators, but it seems like it should be a special meal. Well, I’ve got time to figure it out. Enjoy your week of sleeping in!
I’m alone (again) this week. I had a mediocre goat cheese and walnut salad at trivia night tonight. I stuck some brisket in the freezer at my husband’s birthday party last weekend so probably that for the rest of the week, with (checks vegetable drawer mentally) broccoli. We’re doing Easter with my parents – my husband cooks a turkey, my mom does sides, I make biscuits.
Two weeks. That sounds like a lot. How do they get enough instruction time in? I hope your tropical location time is lovely and your host is amenable to a lot of not-cooking, because cooking on vacation is kind of bullshit.
Ooooh a Spring break sounds lovely right about now! Much like a turkey on Thanksgiving, I don’t eat the ham on Easter and just overeat with apps and sides and desserts instead. I think a big nice Italian meal sounds better than ham – lasagna and meatballs and chicken parm ya know :) I hope you enjoy your time together!!
Two weeks is a long break. North’s on break now, too, but just for a week and a day. I don’t think break changes much about my menu planning. This week I was focused on planning meals to use up random stuff in the fridge (e.g. half a celery root, some peanut sauce). Beth’s cooking on Easter, and last I heard, she didn’t know what she was going to make.
Two weeks. TWO WEEKS!! How do parents who work hourly jobs do it? Honestly. The culture in the US is not made for people to have children.
Burgers, tacos, and pizza sounds like a 100% perfect spring break menu. Sign me up!
Two weeks of spring break sounds dreamy, but maybe that’s because I would also have two weeks off.
We are hosting Easter so I need to get it in gear when I return from Florida late tonight. I made spaghetti and meat sauce before we left. Hopefully Lad did not eat it all while having access to our house, because I am banking on those leftovers for Wed night’s dinner.
Two weeks of spring break sounds wonderful! I can’t help you with menus – all of your meals sound wonderful to me! How about if you cook and I wash the dishes? 😁
A 2 week spring break??? Why! That seems unheard of unless you are on a year-round type of schedule with 2-week breaks throughout the year. Paul has spring break next week but will go to the aftercare program that provides care on non-school days. And then we are pulling him from school for 3 days the following week because my husband can’t miss the first 4 business days of the month. We are going to FL which I am looking forward to. Phil asked me this morning if I was looking forward to it because he’s focused on the hassle factor of getting on a plane, etc. But I think Taco will likely do well now that he can sit and watch movies and such. I am hoping they will be delighted with staying on the beach. We aren’t planning anything – the goal is to sit on the beach and plan in the sand and surf (I believe you hate sand so this is likely not appealing to you – ha!). My parents are coming with, too. We’ll probably eat breakfast in the condo, and maybe lunch, and then go out for low key dinners? We’ll see.
But this week, I made an Asian noodle dish on Sunday and we’ll have stuffed peppers tomorrow night. I kind of mailed it in this week because I just didn’t have the mental capacity to think about meal plans when I got back from my tiring work trip last week.
Two weeks! I love how you’re dividing it between home and away and I hope the warm sunshine and such is just delightful for all.
I’m feeling very over having to prepare food right now, so perhaps I’m not the right person to ask. There are ingredients and I have a plan, but zero desire to do the steps in between. GIANT ADULT SIGH.
Two weeks! Whoa! I have a trip coming up and was just fantasizing this morning about not washing any dishes for that whole time. I know I will be happy to get back to my regular eating but I need a freaking break. I hope you get one!!!!
Two weeks sounds nice, but only for myself because I wouldn’t have to get up at 6:30 a.m. for two weeks. Have so much on your vacation. I’m with you in spirit. 💕
Happy spring and easter break.
I totally get the feeling for not cooking especially when on vacation. But what can you do…
Two weeks? Wow. How nice for Carla and for you, too!
I’m sure you’re stressing over two playdates….but heck, you are going to a tropical location. YAY!
