My husband and I decided to skip a meal plan this week. Instead, we’re going to have “Ham Sandwich” (our current shorthand for “put together something palatable on your own”) all week. Will “Ham Sandwich” involve any actual ham or sandwiches? Who’s to say?! That’s part of the suspense and pleasure of a no-meal-plan week.
In the meantime, I’m over at Elisabeth’s blog today. Come check out the fun questions she asked me (and my typically overly-wordy responses).
I approve of the ham sandwich meal plan, or the “fend for yourself” meal plan as we call it in my house. See you over at Elisabeth’s!
Yes, fend for yourself indeed! I am looking forward to a week of thinking of only my own food needs. (Well. And probably my daughter’s, since I doubt she’d even look at a green vegetable if I didn’t put one on her plate.)
We call that “eating around,” which came from Beth’ family of origin.
“Eating around” conjures such nice images of foraging for me.
i read your guest post- that was fun!!!
We’re doing “ham sandwich” tonight, although we don’t even eat ham. But I embrace the idea!
Thanks, Jenny! I don’t like ham or sandwiches so it amuses me to say we’re having ham sandwich for dinner when that would be one of my last choices for a meal.
So we ACTUALLY had ham sandwiches yesterday. We eat a lot of ham sandwiches (for real). Haha. But yes. We also do “ham sandwich” meals and we call them hodgepodge. A bit of this and that. A great way to clear our the fridge and easy!
Thanks for guest posting ❤
Thanks for having me, Elisabeth! My husband does actually eat ham sandwiches, so it’s not a complete misnomer. But I never do and never would, lol.
OH GOD HOW GLORIOUS
Right?! Feels almost like a vacation!
MORE HAM SANDWICH WEEKS. ❤️
Yes! Hooray for ham sandwich!
Fend for yourselves days are always the best aren’t they?
So easy and delicious!
Gah, I wish I could do this! As Nance said, GLORIOUS! I mean, I guess I COULD. I could just go to the grocery store and buy a bunch of stuff and let them figure it all out. Sigh. I wonder if there’s any tomato soup in the freezer? Might be tomato soup night…
You are now my best friend. I had tomato soup in the freezer, AND turkey chili…which means my daughter and I will have grilled cheese and tomato soup, and my husband will have chili. I will still go to the store, we need a couple of things, but I don’t have to cook tonight. YAY!
YASSSSSSSS. Welcome to the wonderful world of Ham Sandwich!
Related to this is the YOYO dinner = You’re On Your Own, e.g. forage in the fridge for your own dinner.
Such a cute moniker!
Yay for you! You deserve a week off!
Loved your responses; I much prefer longer and more detailed answers. Is your daughter’s pseudonym for your blog Carla or Clara? I was confused by that!
Oh my goodness – FACEPALM! I wrote out the wrong pseudonym. I am so sorry Suzanne. I am so used to thinking about her real name now and basically never think of her “blog name” – gah. It’s Carla. It’s Carla and I am sorry 😐
We’ve done “ham sandwich”-weeks on occasion, but Jon gets way too much take out when that happens LOL so I’d rather meal plan and cook 🙂
I love “ham sandwich,” “eating around,” and “YOYO”… I’m going to have to incorporate these into my household!
Ed just noted that Coach has been grilling more than ever before. There was even a somewhat accusatory look, as if I was falling down on my responsibilities. I was like YEAH, WELL – I CAN USE ALL THE HELP I CAN GET. I support the ham sandwich idea. Looking forward to reading all of your responses at Elisabeth’s blog.
WooHoo! Nothing like a little breather and who knows what’s going to happen! Maybe someone will even cook for you! 🙂 Mona
